Required Material for Drum Lessons

Instrument
Every student must have an instrument to which they have access for at least ½ an hour daily. A practice pad is the minimum requirement. A complete drum set is best for obvious reasons.

Metronome
Every student is required to have a metronome. A metronome is an electronic device that clicks a steady pulse at a variety of tempos. They vary in cost and complexity. Basic metronomes cost about $20.00-$40.00, while a complex one can cost $100.00 or more. You can pick one up at most any music store.

Books
Beginning/Intermediate students will be required to study from at least one, and as many as three books at a time. The cost of the average beginner/intermediate drum book is about $12.00. (More advanced books, and books with CD’s can cost upward of $20.00 - $40.00) A notebook with staff paper will also be required.

Optional Material

Digital Clock, or timer (recommended)
A digital clock is a useful tool. It enables the student to structure practice time in increments, according to how much time he/she has on any given day. This helps maintain focus, and encourages the student to set goals for each practice session.

Music Stand
Students are not required to bring a music stand to their lesson. However, it is a good item to have for practice at home, or in the event that I will be teaching at your home.

Recording Device
Students may wish to record parts of their lesson and refer to the recording while practicing at home. This is a good practice technique, but not required.
